The Vivo Children's Choir was founded in 2002 by accomplished musicians and educators Carrie Taylor, Anne Wilson Unger, and Ingrid Verseveldt in New Westminster, British Columbia. Motivated by a desire to create a local musical outlet for their own children and others in the community, they established an inclusive choir open to all children from grades 2 and up, with no auditions required.
Over the years, the choir has been divided into different levels to cater to various age groups and skill levels:
Animoso: Grades 2 & 3
Bravura: Grades 4 & 5
Concento: Grades 6-8
The choir has provided young singers with opportunities to develop their vocal skills in a positive and nurturing environment, performing in concerts and community events. Many participants have continued their musical journeys into high school and beyond, with some joining provincial honor choirs and other advanced programs.
In 2022, Ingrid Verseveldt retired from her role, and in December 2024, after 22 years of dedicated leadership, Carrie Taylor and Anne Wilson Unger conducted their final concert with the Vivo Children's Choir. The choir hosted a reunion and winter concert to celebrate their contributions and to welcome alumni back for a final performance under their direction.
Following their retirement, Melodie Langevin was appointed as the new artistic director, beginning in January 2025, ushering in a new chapter for the Vivo Children's Choir.
